The Madonna is entirely hand carved in wood, which is covered in a thin layer of applied gesso and then polychrome painted. She has glass eyes. The base is a solid block of heavy hardwood which gives the piec e great stability. The crown is silver-tone metal and has imperfections, but in my opinion that adds to the beauty and sense of history this piece has.
